It was the best time of his life and Newtown College student James Harmon is still smiling.
The Foundation Study student spent a weekend in Berlin for the seventh and eighth rounds of the FIA Formula E Championship, and to top it off, the racing fanatic couldn’t believe it when he was given the incredible opportunity to present the winner -Sebastien Buemi with the winner’s trophy.
James has been interested in Formula E since day one (2014) and has now completed an environmental project as part of his course where he was keen to find out the benefits of the sport first hand. The electric cars are battery powered and can reach speeds of up to 140mph.
He has also travelled to Paris and London to watch other races and as part of his course in Newtown he researched and planned his recent trip during his ICT classes.
“It was the best trip I have ever been on,” said James. “It was just amazing,” he added.

His lecturer, Fleur Grigg said it was a dream come true for him.
“He is still talking about it. He has turned his hobby into a project and has worked hard looking at the benefits of electric racing. He has been learning first hand and during his IT sessions booked his trip.”
James who is a student rep, is now looking forward to his next race but also to returning to College in September to continue with his studies.
