NPTC Group of Colleges’ Agricultural student Eifion Jones has been named joint winner of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society Student of the Year Award 2017.
Each year, the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society presents promising students and rising stars with awards and scholarships which recognises and pays tribute to their enthusiasm and dedication to Welsh agriculture.
Eifion studies the Level 3 Agricultural course at the College’s Newtown College whilst working on the family beef and sheep farm in Llangadfan, Powys on top of running with his own successful welding and fabrication business, SEJ Engineering.
A former Caereinion High School pupil, Eifion has won numerous awards for the design and manufacture of a range of agricultural equipment and the judges were particularly impressed with his innovative fencing machine designed to make life easier for farmers.
The annual award, this year sponsored by Sainsbury’s, was presented by the President of The Royal Welsh Agricultural Society and given to a student following a Level 3 course in Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Animal Nursing, Horse Management, Countryside Management or other land-based related management courses.
To top it off, Eifion will also be invited to write an article for the society’s 2018 journal as well as receive a certificate and a cash prize for £300.
Head of NPTC Group of Colleges’ School of Agriculture, Horticulture and Culinary Arts Sue Lloyd Jones was delighted with the award and said:
‘Our students are truly committed to the agricultural industry and this is evident in their studies and practical home-based activities. I am very proud of Eifion and all he has already achieved in his career, I believe that this very promising student has an extremely exciting future ahead of him in the agricultural industry.’
