NPTC Group of Colleges was proud to sponsor the Outstanding Progress Award (secondary school) at Swansea Bay Radio’s Young Achiever Awards recently.
The deserving winner for 2017 was former Pentrehafod Comprehensive School pupil Chelbie Williams.
Chelbie Williams, aged 15, was one of 30 students across the UK to be selected for a scholarship to India with Virgin Media. As the only pupil from Wales, Chelbie had the opportunity to go to India to help build schools for poverty-stricken children. An experience that would change her life.
What makes the Penlan teenager’s achievements all the more remarkable is that three years ago she was moved on to Pentrehafod’s Alternative Curriculum (Pace) scheme.
Chelbie was put forward for the award and the scholarship by teacher Katie Miller. Katie has been a source of support throughout her journey and extremely proud of how far Chelbie has come. Chelbie has since left school gaining a number of GCSEs and is now working with fellow pupils as a teaching assistant back at Pentrehafod School.
