Two Computing and Information Technology students from NPTC Group of Colleges have won Silver and Bronze in the World Skills UK Welsh Regional Heat.
Students, Zack Evans and James Craddock-Jones took part in the Regional Heat for Web Design held at Coleg Sir Gar.
Zack, 16 and James, 17 are both currently studying for their IT Practitioners Level 3 which includes modules on digital graphics, website development and computer games design.
The students were tasked with a professional brief to build set designs into a user-friendly functioning website from conception to completion in a live competition, including the creation of a responsive portfolio website that needed to be usable for cross-platforms.
The National Final will include designing a website from a given brief, creating a website from a given image, use of client side customisation and JavaScript and finally, creating a database for a company and making a database secure using PHP.
The students commented: “We’ve been able to apply our skills we have learnt in the classroom to the projects set by WorldSkills, it’s been a great platform to broaden key skills.
NPTC Group of Colleges continues its successes in Computing and IT main qualifications with attainment on main qualifications up year on year from 95% to 98%.

This is the fifth year running we have had successful entries in the Wales/UK and World Skills competitions. Success on Computing & IT programmes remain high with 100% success for ICT and 94% success for Computer Science. From the Computer Science programme we also had three students who were ranked in the top 20 A level results for the UK.
