A former NPTC Group of Colleges student has received the Worshipful Livery Company of Wales Award 2018 in recognition of academic and personal success.
Lauren Evans completed the BTEC Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care at Afan College in July, achieving an impressive triple distinction grade, and is now going on to study Adult Nursing at Swansea University.
The Worshipful Livery Company’s Margaret Davies attended Afan College to present Lauren with the School’s Award for Arts, Science and Technology, along with a cheque for £250 towards books and course materials.
Health and Social Care coordinator Sarah Mellor said:
“This award is a testament to Lauren’s hard work and dedication. I am very proud of what Lauren has achieved with us, and what I know she will go on to achieve at university. We wish her every success for the future.”
Speaking after receiving her award, Lauren said:
“I am extremely proud and humbled to receive this award, but I couldn’t have achieved my results without the help and support of all the lecturers at the College. I look forward to putting what I have learned into practice at university.”
Margaret Davies explained:
“A primary aim of The Worshipful Livery Company of Wales is to promote education, science, technology and the arts in Wales. One of the ways we hope to do this is via our School Awards which are presented to students who have achieved outstanding results, often in difficult circumstances. Lauren has demonstrated via her hard work and excellent examination results that she is a worthy recipient of this year’s award, and I wish her every success in her future studies and career.”
The Worshipful Livery Company of Wales was initially formed as the Welsh Livery Guild in 1993 by members of the City of London Livery Companies who wished to extend the Livery traditions within Wales, awarding talented students to encourage them to develop their skills in Higher Education and Employment.
Carol Evans, Deputy Head of School for Health, Social and Childcare added:
“Thank you to the Worshipful Livery Company of Wales for continuing to support the College and for recognising the efforts that Lauren has made in her studies. On behalf of the School and the College, I wish Lauren the best in her future studies.”
