Two NPTC Group of Colleges science students have stormed to silver in the Inspiring Skills Excellence in Wales Forensic Science Competition.
The Applied Science (Biomedical & Forensic) students fought off competition from students from colleges and sixth forms from across Wales to take the silver medal, narrowly missing the top spot.
Natasha McBrien and Lois Jones, who are part of Neath College’s Sixth Form Academy, gathered and examined evidence from a simulated complex crime scene, impressing judges with their analytical skills.
The competition, hosted by Coleg Gwent, is part of the Inspiring Skills Excellence in Wales competitions, a series of self-contained competitions designed to identify and celebrate skills in Wales.
Forensic science lecturer Emma Morgan was impressed with the dedication and skill exhibited by the students. She said: “The two students did incredibly exceptionally well to be placed so highly in this competition. A silver medal is a testament to their skill and dedication to their subject, and they only just missed out on the gold. The Inspiring Skills Excellence competitions pave the way for action in World Skills competitions.”
Kelly Fountain, Head of Sixth Form Academy, said: “These skills competitions are a fabulous way to showcase teaching and learning excellence, and that our students have done so well highlights the brilliant work that takes place in the Sixth Form Academy and across NPTC Group of Colleges.”
