Art students at Newtown College had a busy end to 2018, taking part in a Mid Wales Pop-up Arts Exhibition.
Hosted by the recently formed Llanidloes Artists Group, over 500 art enthusiasts and members of the public attended the opening to see the work of local artists in the area, held at the town’s old Natwest Building on Great Oak Street in December. By the end of the three week exhibition over 1350 visitors had attended.
Newtown College lecturer Nia Newson and students Rhiannon Micah and Cerys Hurst were selected to take part, with the exhibition being such a success that it was extended for a further two weeks!
Llanidloes Artists is a group of artists living in and around Llanidloes. The group aims to support artists and promote Llanidloes as a vibrant artistic town.
The free entry exhibition was the first public outing of the group and showcased a selection of work from the group’s members.
Nia Newson was delighted with how the event had gone, and said: “The exhibition was not only a fantastic opportunity to showcase the area’s artistic talents, but to also create links between the college and local artists.
“We received great feedback about the students’ work, their ideas and their technical abilities.
“The best part about the show was that the students were able to see their work displayed alongside established artists such as Osian Gwent, Gini Wade and many other accomplished printmakers, ceramicists and painters.
“We are really looking forward to building on the success of the exhibition.”
