Two students from NPTC Group of Colleges have been recognised by Neath/Port Talbot County Borough Council for their contribution to engaging local young people in sport and physical activity.
NPTC Group of Colleges Alumni, former sport student Corey Dyer has been nominated for the ‘Young Ambassador of the Year’ award in association with Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council’s sports department (NPT Pass) and NPTC Get Active (the College’s health and wellbeing initiative). Corey, who is now studying Sport at Cardiff Metropolitan University, was awarded for his outstanding contribution to engaging young people in physical activity during his role volunteering as Gold Young Ambassador with NPT Pass.
Current student Michael Bevan, studying Sport Level 3 Performance and Excellence at Llandarcy Academy of Sport, has also been recognised. He is nominated for the ‘Young Volunteer of the Year’ award, for his outstanding contribution to volunteering with the various different after-school clubs and sports teams in the local community. Mike is a Gold Young Ambassador with NPT Pass and he is currently volunteering for the Get Active programme at NPTC Group of Colleges.
Lindsay Piper, Senior Officer for Physical Activity, Health & Wellbeing at NPTC Group of Colleges oversees the Get Active programme and is extremely proud of her students, who she believes are very deserving of these nominations. She said; “volunteers are the life and soul of community sport, and of our Get Active programme at NPTC Group of Colleges. The time, energy and commitment of volunteers such as Corey and Mike has enabled our non-sports students to sample a wide range of exciting sports, increasing the number of students engaged in physical activity across our sites. And without the effort of volunteers in our communities, grassroots sports would not happen. We are extremely grateful for the commitment they have given to the NPTC Get Active programme.”
