Congratulations to Newtown College student Ffion Jones who has won the Montgomeryshire Society Prize for Further Education Achievement.
Ffion is currently completing the L3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care (Health Studies) with Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate and manages to juggle two part-time jobs at Caersws Chip Shop where she has been working for three years and at Jarmen’s Chip Shop in Newtown.
As well as this, Ffion found time to make contributions to her local community which saw her recognised for the award.
She is a Dementia Friends Champion, helped raise £320 for the Alzheimer’s Society, is a Police Cadet with Dyfed Powys Police, a Cadet Leader at Newtown’s St. Johns Centre, has carried out work placements at Bethshan Nursing home in Newtown and at Newtown Hospital, completed bronze and silver Duke of Edinburgh awards and somehow still found time to help us at our Open Evenings!
Ffion has just applied to become a Special Constable with Dyfed Powys Police and has been accepted so she will soon be on the beat, giving back even more to her local community.
She intends to continue to work as a Dementia Champion and educate people about what dementia actually is.
Ffion’s lecturer Sarah Eskins was delighted for Ffion, and said: “Ffion’s work ethic has astounded me. She has a busy life outside of college but her time management and organisational skills mean the work always meets deadlines.
“This is due to the fact that she is highly motivated, conscientious and committed. She does not always find the work easy, but she will persevere until she “gets it”. She is tenacious!
“I am sure Ffion will achieve her ambition to become a police officer as I believe she has the right personality, skills and determination to succeed.”
