Skills Academy Wales (SAW) is celebrating 10 years of successfully providing opportunities for young people and those in employment, to upskill and gain nationally accredited qualifications. During this time, SAW has supported over 20,000 individuals to achieve qualifications that have helped them to progress in their chosen careers. SAW, led by NPTC Group of Colleges was established in October 2009 by bringing together seven partners, ACO Training Limited, Jobforce Wales, Learnkit Limited, Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council, Llanelli Rural Council (LRC Training), Swansea ITeC Limited and Coleg y Cymoedd. SAW’s provision primarily covers South and Mid Wales with some specialist provision in North Wales. Nicola Thornton-Scott, Assistant Principal Skills at NPTC Group of Colleges says: “It has been a really amazing journey bringing together so many like-minded training organisations with the sole purpose of providing outstanding education and training provision for individuals and our employer community. Skills Academy Wales was the first work-based learning consortium in Wales, leading the way in the sector. It is absolutely fantastic that once again, this year, we have received confirmation that we are Wales’ top Apprenticeship Provider. This is very special to us in our 10th anniversary year. I am very much looking forward to the next 10 years, continuing to provide high-quality education and training which respond to the needs of the communities we serve.”
