Former Brecon Beacons College (Part of NPTC Group of Colleges) student Deryn Shepherd has returned to where her educational journey began, but this time on the other side of the desk.
The former Childcare level 3 student has returned to College to start her career as a health, social and childcare lecturer.
Deryn, who studied at the College from 2010 to 2012 explains how her time at College gave her the opportunity to travel. Deryn used the skills she learnt to take on positions overseas, including being an activity leader in the French Alps, and nanny in both New Zealand and Australia.
Deryn adds: “The knowledge that I gained from being a student at the College was invaluable. From my time at College, I was able to gain employment as a nursery nurse, pre-school assistant, as well as a teaching assistant in the private sector.”
Deryn goes further to add that: “Without the education, I gained at the College, I would not have been able to land my dream job. It makes it even better that I can return and teach where I gained the knowledge and grew as a person.”
Whilst carrying out her role as a lecturer at the college, Deryn is also studying for her PGCE through NPTC Group of Colleges and said the choice to continue to study at Brecon Beacons College was easy. “It is now convenient for me and the lecturers are so approachable,” she added.
