Elin Jones, a former Level 3 Childcare student at Brecon Beacons College (Part of NPTC Group of Colleges), took the time to tell us how she has taken the next step to further her studies at the College.
Elin who is now a student on the Childcare Foundation degrees says: “I chose to continue my studies at Brecon Beacons College as it’s near to where I live and as a small college it wasn’t overwhelming and was easy to settle in.”
During her time at college, Elin has gained mathematic skills from attending GCSE maths and digital literacy lessons. She said: “This was something I struggled with in school. At college, I was able to re-sit my maths GCSE and receive support with both my maths and English.”
As a childcare student, Elin was able to progress onto the Foundation degree. This involves modules of independent study and research in specific areas of interest to students.
“I wanted to develop my knowledge, learn more about child development and meet new people. “
Throughout the course, Elin had the experience of working with children which she thoroughly enjoyed. She says: “I was particularly interested in learning about child development theorists and safeguarding. I also wanted to expand my knowledge and understanding by starting the Foundation degree.”
