Business students at Newtown College held a charity fun run for Cancer Research UK. The entrants did not disappoint turning out in festive attire. Families, friends and even a number of family dogs took part. Participants were invited to run, jog, walk and chat along the 5K route, through Dolrew Park and along the river bank.
There was also festive fundraising fun too with find the elf on route, a raffle and chocolate brownies and decorated cupcakes a plenty. The race was won by 13-year-old Cai Van Lill, in second place was Ben Wood and Rachel Williams came in third place and was the first lady back. There were prizes for best festive dress with the winner for the Best Adult Festive Fancy Dress going to Georgina Fletcher and Best Child Festive Fancy Dress going to Maisie Love.
Amanda Disley, Business lecturer at Newtown College, said: “Thankfully the weather was kind to us, and we are so pleased people came out in festive dress. We would like to thank everyone who came to support the event. Well done to all our runners and our winners today.”
Amanda went on to comment on the students saying: ‘I am enormously proud of the students for organising this event. The pandemic has taken a toll on many and its really good to see the students having the experience of organising an event and managing to raise huge funds for such a great cause that offers vital support to so many people dealing with cancer. The students have managed to raise £1000 already and there’s still a chance to contribute if you weren’t able to make the event by going to our gofundme – Santa-Sunday page. We are enormously grateful to Open Newtown, Newtown Park Run, Severn Trophies, Border Janitorial Supplies and Wildwood Ludlow for supporting the event”
