Newtown College Sports lecturer, Andy Davies has once again secured a place in the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham after an incredible Marathon finish in Seville running a personal best of 2.14.22.
The time was also enough to make the European Championships standard and a good day for Wales with Josh Griffiths finishing a brilliant 2:11.27 to also book his place.
Andy took time out whilst presenting Sporting Excellence Awards at Newtown College on Thursday this week to speak to us about his thoughts before the big race in Seville.
He said: “I feel in good condition, and ready to go, the weather has not been great here for my training runs lately but the conditions and course out in Seville look good.”
After the run he describes it as “a cheeky personal best for me and congratulates co Welsh runner Josh Griffiths on his massive success and personal best.”
Head of School: Sports and Public Service, Barry Roberts said: “Andy is a fantastic inspiration to our young sports students and is always quick to give them time and encouragement in the pursuit of their own goals. We all wish him the very best of luck in the Championship.”
