Newtown College is celebrating excellent results after student’s finish with top grades in their vocational studies.
Sport students Laura Shinton and Jennifer Jarvie received the highest grade that can be achieved a triple D * in BTEC Level 3 Sport, Coaching and Development. The result is equivalent to 3 A * qualifications and means they have a total of 168 UCAS points.
Laura, a devoted swimmer who has ranked top ten for 50metre in breaststroke at the nationals and top 15 in 100metre breaststroke in Wales said: “I’m so really pleased with my results which means I can go on to Solent University Southampton to study Health, Nutrition and Exercise Science.”
Sport lecturer Amy Watkins said: “Laura has shown great dedication throughout her studies and has a good all-round outlook toward sport, study and working with and supporting others. She has all the potentials for a fantastic career ahead.”
Jennifer Jarvie has a passion for sport and uses her coaching experience as evidence to achieve excellence in all aspects of her work. Jennifer is a member of the TNS Ladies Football Club who compete in the Welsh Adran Premier League. She is also volunteer coaches at Berriew FC and Newtown FC U14 girls. Jennifer has been accepted at University of Birmingham to study BSc Sport, Physical Education & Coaching Science.
Sport lecturer Amy said: “Jen is a great ambassador and a natural leader. She’s highly motivated and has a great future ahead of her in the sports industry. We all wish Jen and all our students the best of luck in the future.”
