Newtown College Gateway students recently had the chance to visit Bike to the Future, a charity based in Newtown, dedicated to promoting cycling. The trip was supported by Transport for Wales (TFW) who are currently campaigning for people to make more sustainable travel choices.
The group of eight students were given a talk by Project Manager Tom Chandler who provided an overview of the Bike to the Future project and allowed the students to explore a variety of bikes, discussing with them their main features and some of the benefits of using a bike such as low environmental impact, exercise, health benefits, and that they can be a good financial alternative to other forms of transport.
College Lecturer Sarah Welch said, “It was a great way for our students to think about different modes of transport, the environment and help them build their confidence in travelling independently.”
