There will be twelve students reporesenting the college, across seven skills areas. All of the finalists were amongst the highest performers in the UK in their respective disciplines following a series of regional qualifiers.

Students from NPTC Group of Colleges will join 500 other participants from across the UK to compete in a range of skills competitions, including Accountancy, Automotive Repair, Horticulture, Laboratory Technician, and Web Design (from Neath and Pontardawe Colleges respectively) and Confectionary and Patisserie, Culinary Arts and Restaurant Service (from Newtown College).

Mark Dacey, CEO of NPTC Group of Colleges said:

“Skills competitions provide an excellent way for our students to challenge themselves and develop higher level skills which support their journey towards excellence. I am immensely proud of the achievement of our students in being recognised as amongst the best in Wales and wish them every success in the WorldSkills UK finals in Manchester.”

Ian Lumsdaine, Director of Skills at NPTC Group of Colleges commented:

“I would like to congratulate our students who are representing NPTC Group of Colleges and Wales in the WorldSkills UK finals. I know that tutors are hugely proud of the fantastic achievement of their students who have successfully qualified for the finals and feel that this recognition is well deserved. I’m sure that our student’s success will inspire others seeking to become excellent in their respective skills area.”

The WorldSkills UK competitions are designed by industry experts and enhance the practical skills and knowledge taught on training courses by assessing an individual’s employability attributes against set criteria in a competitive timed environment. Competitors who perform well in Manchester have the potential to represent the UK at future ‘Skills Olympics’.
