Master John Charles began the ceremony with a brief overview of the role of the Livery Company and an appreciation of the role of apprenticeships. The Worshipful Livery Company of Wales was set up thirty years ago to support talent in Wales, and it promotes education, science, and technology, with a focus on skills and associated professional activities in Wales. The Worshipful Livery Awards aim to develop the talents of young people throughout Wales.
Mustafa’s employer David Jones attended the ceremony and praised Mustafa, describing him as a dedicated, hard worker.
Clare Ward, NPTC Group of Colleges Pathways Training Assessor said: “Mustafa is an excellent example of how you can achieve your goal with dedication and commitment. Mustafa came to us at Newtown College with the desire to be a carpenter. With his determination and encouragement from his employer David, he has proven to be an excellent student who has excelled in his work.”
Codi Jerman
Codi Jerman, a Support Worker at The Oaks Care Home, Newtown has completed her Level 2 Health & Social Care Adults Apprenticeship to comply with Care standards. Codi said she tried undertaking this qualification as a full-time, further education student, but this did not suit her learning needs. Speaking about the apprenticeship route she commented:
“This has given me the confidence and skills to go on to undertake and train to become a Midwife; which I would have never thought of doing only that I have achieved this qualification”.
Elaine Nicholls, NPTC Group of Colleges Pathways Training Assessor said: “We are very proud of the way that Codi has applied herself to her studies because she has also had to deal with some challenging situations on the way. It just shows that if you want something badly enough you can achieve it with the correct and adaptive support in place.”
