NPTC Group of Colleges is excited to announce a new series of catering classes taking place in the Afan Valley. These free classes will be held at the Croeserw Enterprise Centre kitchens, starting June 12th, from 12 PM to 3 PM, and will run for three consecutive weeks.
The initiative aims to equip participants with essential catering skills, focusing on batch cooking techniques. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to earn a Level 1 Food Hygiene rating by the end of the sessions.
This program is open to everyone in the community, regardless of their prior cooking experience. Participants will gain hands-on experience in a professional kitchen environment, learning from an experienced instructor Martin White who will guide them through the basics of catering and food hygiene.
Martin White, Catering Manager at NPTC Group of Colleges, highlights the benefits of this initiative: “These classes are designed to not only teach practical cooking skills but also to build confidence in the kitchen. We hope to see participants take these skills home and use them to enhance their daily lives and perhaps even explore new career opportunities.”
The program emphasises the importance of community engagement and personal development. It offers a platform for individuals to come together, learn new skills, and potentially open doors to employment in the catering sector.
This initiative builds on the success of similar programs previously run by NPTC Group of Colleges, such as the recent collaboration with Powys County Council. In that project, parents in Powys were offered classes in five different school kitchens; not only developing their culinary skills but also fostering a keen sense of community and improving their employability prospects.
