An A Level student from Neath College has proven that against the odds you can succeed.
Nathan Morrison has secured a place at Cardiff University, a member of the prestigious Russell Group, to study Law and Politics after achieving an impressive A in Sociology and a B in Business and History A levels.
However, his educational journey has been far from plain sailing. Nathan spent most of his comprehensive years in the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic; he struggled with online learning and became disengaged with education. Nathan sat his GCSEs after having only two months of being taught physically in school and he didn’t achieve what he needed to progress to A Levels.
This didn’t stop Nathan, he recognised the need to study A Levels to fulfil his dream of studying Politics at University, so he made the decision not to undertake another course but take on an additional year and enrolled on the Introduction to AS Level Programme.
The Introduction to AS Level / Level 3 Programme runs from September until June and is designed to prepare you for AS Level study or Level 3 courses. It is an academic course that will enable you to build upon your GCSE profile if you currently haven’t met the entry requirements required for AS/Level 3 programmes or if you need to improve upon your GCSE profile. Upon successful completion of this programme, you will gain five GCSEs.
Selina Philpin, Deputy Head of the Sixth Form Academy said:
“I’m immensely proud of Nathan, we can celebrate not just his academic achievements, but the incredible resilience and determination Nathan has shown in overcoming every obstacle. His success is a testament to his unwavering spirit, and I do not doubt that his future will be just as bright.’’
