This BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business is a full-time, two-year course, designed for students who wish to develop a theoretical and practical understanding of various aspects of business.
This qualification is recognised as a first step to many specialisms and career opportunities, as well as an array of higher education routes.
Students will have the opportunity to learn about the dynamic world of business and will be encouraged to think like entrepreneurs. They will be exposed to many specialisms whilst they learn, such as Human Resources, Finance, Administration, Management, Law, and Marketing.
Students will have the opportunity to learn practical skills, such as event planning, and be given the opportunity to undertake visits and be introduced to guest speakers that help motivate and engage them into the world of work.
6 GCSE’s at grade C or above or equivalent, to include Maths or English. No previous business studies experience is needed.
The recognised progression route is onto HE courses or employment. Graduates have the prospect of entering an extremely diverse choice of career paths after completion of this course, and this is one of the extremely appealing factors to consider when making a choice for FE study.
The course covers a range of units, including Recruitment, Exploring Business, Marketing, Finance, HR, Business Strategy, Customer Service, International Business and much more.
Students will also complete the Advanced Skills Welsh Baccalaureate Challenge, which is integrated into the course and offers an excellent opportunity to explore specialist areas of interest in business, or personal areas of interest. It is extremely valuable to students, counting as an A Level in addition to their BTEC 3 A Level equivalent points, making them extremely appealing to employers and HE institutions alike.
Students will prepare a varied amount of course work. Written assessments are completed throughout the course, research is undertaken and the preparation and presentation of finding will be in written and oral form, as well as offering a number of practical elements that keep the course interesting and engaging. In addition, there are two external assessments in the first and second year of study.
There will be some visits and trips throughout the course, including as part of the event unit, however the cost of these will be kept to a minimum, particularly any mandatory day trips.
