Course Overview
The UAL Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design is a full-time further education course designed for students wishing to gain experience and technical skills in a range of artistic specialisms. Students will have identified a specific career in the creative industries that they wish to progress to (e.g. fashion designer, graphic designer, product designer, Architect), using this qualification as a starting point. This is located in the Creative, Visual and Performing Arts (CVP) department.
Applicants are considered individually to ensure that they have the potential to achieve the qualification. Two GCSE’s (grade C or above) are desirable (Newtown only - Two GCSE's grade D or above are desirable), along with a portfolio of creative work.
This qualification will help learners to enter higher level courses, e.g. Level 3 Diploma and prepare them for employment in the field of art and design.

You will explore materials, techniques and concepts in a variety of pathway areas including: Graphics, Illustration, Time-based, Textiles, Fashion, Photography, Design Crafts, 3D design and Fine Art; painting, printmaking and sculpture.
In the final term you will specialise in one of these main pathway areas allowing you to prepare your portfolio for progression on to a Level 3 course and / or employment.
You will learn through a variety of ways using workshops, demonstrations, group work, independent projects which increase in length, freedom of choice and complexity.
Year 1 starts with a 10 week Exploratory stage introducing you to a variety of new ideas and ways of working. In the second stage you will explore longer projects in 2D, 3D and Time based working. You will finish the year with a Final Major Project giving you freedom to explore your preferred pathway area.
In your self-directed Final Major Project and end of year exhibition.
Your work is assessed on a formal and informal ongoing basis, with frequent oral and written feedback with grading. Your Final major Project is assessed as Pass, Merit or Distinction.
You will be given a small list of required materials and equipment at interview.
