Course Overview
Dive deep into the intriguing world of ancient Greek mythology at Neath Port Talbot College with our Mythology in 5th Century Attic Tragedy course. This course delves into the myths that serve as the foundation for the masterpieces of the illustrious tragedians of Classical Athens: Aeschylus, Euripides, and Sophocles. Explore the captivating performances that were held in the historic Theatre of Dionysus under the summer sun during the celebrated Great Dionysia festival. Students will gain insight into how playwrights utilised mythology to tackle compelling questions about governance, personal responsibility, and the nature of morality. By studying iconic myths such as the stories of Prometheus, Oedipus Rex, and the Fall of Troy, we will critically assess their enduring significance and debate whether ancient Athenian perspectives retain relevance today.
