Course Overview
Look around you…. we are surrounded by fabrics that provide function and decoration for ourselves and our world. From the clothes that you wear to the sofa you sit on, these fabrics and products have all been designed by a visionary who takes inspiration from the realm in which we live and this visionary could be you! With great emphasis being put upon all industries to secure the future of the planet, sustainability will be a key element of the course so that you ‘consciously’ create through the ever growing use of recycled materials, natural fabrics and eco dyeing.
This course will support your creative thinking and experimentation, helping you develop your own contextual research and practice into the creation of new design concepts through your choice of potential career options such as; textiles, installation, fashion, costume, accessories or interiors. Fashion and Textiles can lead onto a career in to the aforementioned, as well as styling, TV and theatre, illustration, fashion buying and merchandising, retail management, millinery, pattern cutting and construction, plus many more.
Within the course you will develop your technical skills in the areas of fashion and textile design with emphasis being placed upon sustainability where it can. This will include a multitude of textile processes, fashion illustration and design, pattern cutting and draping, mood-boards, traditional and digital drawing and fabric design as well as branding and social media marketing, specialising in year 2 within your preferred specialism.
