The AS Level / A Level English Language & Literature course analyses the language of Literature. This is located in the Sixth Form Academy (SFA).
Join us in the fascinating exploration of poetry from 1600 to 1900 and enjoy observing how language has changed. You will also have the opportunity to study pre-1770 Drama, 19th and 20th century Novels, and Spoken Language. The coursework element allows you to produce your own original writing.

GCSE English Language Grade B required and GCSE English Literature Grade B desirable.
English Language and Literature is a valuable qualification for many degree courses and professions, such as Law, Teaching, Public Relations, Journalism, Advertising, and Author.
The skills of Academic Writing are also taught on this course which prove an invaluable tool needed for other A Level courses as well as future careers.

Unit 4: Unseen texts and Prose study. Section A: Comparative analysis of texts, including spoken language. Section B: The Handmaid’s Tale, Margaret Atwood. (open book).
Unit 5: Critical and Creative Genre study coursework. Students will study 2 texts within a selected genre and will produce a critical essay as well as a piece of creative writing in their chosen genre.
