The AS Level / A Level German course is a Full-time course located in the Sixth Form Academy (SFA). You will develop confident, effective communication skills in German and a thorough understanding of the culture of countries and communities where German is spoken. This course will develop your language.
The course will nurture an interest in, and enthusiasm for, language learning and encourages students to consider their study of the language in a broader context.

A minimum of six GCSEs at Grade C. GCSE English Language Grade B is required. GCSE German Grade C is desirable
Many students go to university to study German/Business/Law/Accounting (many students study German with another subject).
The career options are numerous: teaching, translating, interpreting, banking, insurance, accountancy, lawyer, IT, sales.
The AS themes are being a young person in a German- speaking society and understanding the German- speaking world.
The A-level themes are diversity and difference and the making of modern Germany from 1989 onwards.
AS
Unit 1: Speaking exam (12-15 minutes, 12% of qualification),
Unit 2: Listening, reading, translation and critical response in writing (2 hours 30 minutes, 28% of qualification).
A2
Unit 3: Speaking exam on an independent research project involving a presentation and discussion on chosen topic (11-12 minutes, 18% of qualification),
Unit 4: Listening, reading and translation written exam (1 hour 45 minutes, 30% of qualification),
Unit 5: Critical and analytical response in writing (1 hour 30 minutes, 12% of qualification).
