The AS Level / A Level Mathematics is a full-time Further Education course within the Sixth Form Academy (SFA). It is designed for students interested in the field of mathematics or those who wish to pursue a career as a mathematician or work in mathematics-related fields.
Mathematics plays a central and essential part in all scientific disciplines, as well as being an important subject in its own right. It is also useful as a support to many Humanities subjects such as Economics, Psychology and Geography.
The AS Mathematics syllabus includes topics from Pure Mathematics, Statistics and Mechanics including, Algebra, Co-ordinate Geometry, Calculus, Trigonometry, Kinematics, Newton’s Laws of Motion, Probability.

A minimum of six GCSEs at Grade C or above including English. Higher/Intermediate Tier GCSE Maths Grade B & GCSE Numeracy Grade C recommended.
A level Mathematics is essential for studying, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or Economics at University, but will be helpful with many other subjects including Chemistry, Biology and Psychology.

AS Mathematics - The AS course is made up of two compulsory modules. The AS Mathematics course represents 40% of the overall A level.

Unit 1: Pure Mathematics (25% of A level): Algebra, Co-ordinate Geometry, Calculus, Trigonometry, Logarithms.
Unit 2: Applied Mathematics (15% of A Level). Mechanics: Kinematics, Forces, Newton’s Laws of Motion, Vectors. Statistics: Statistical distributions, Probability, Data Presentations, and Interpretations. A2 Mathematics (Second year) - In the second year there will be a further 2 modules.
To undertake A level Mathematics you must have gained a minimum grade D in AS Mathematics.

Unit 3: Pure Mathematics (35% of A Level): Calculus, Functions, Proofs, Trigonometry, Algebra, Sequences and Series Vectors.
Unit 4: Applied Mathematics (25% of A level): Statistics: Probability, Statistical Distributions, Hypothesis Testing: Differential Equations, Numerical Methods, and Mechanics: Forces and Newtons Laws, Moments, Vectors, Differential Equations, Numerical Methods.
