The BTEC Level 3 Extended Certificate has an applied science general route. The course provides UCAS points which are equivalent to one A level.
The Applied Science course equips you with a variety of different skills and a wide science knowledge base spanning biology, chemistry and physics. Students will have the opportunity to participate in competitions, such as SkillsWales and WorldSkills. This course provides students with opportunities to apply to a wide range of university courses (see below for some examples).
The course is suitable for students who have a keen interest in science and who have a minimum of five GCSEs grade A-C, including mathematics and English at grade C or above.
Possible careers include biochemist, radiologist, radiographer, audiologist, chemist, biologist, paramedic, chiropractor, healthcare, forensic science
AS
This course consists of 50% coursework and 25% is exam based 25% externally marked coursework. The units you will study include: principles and applications of science, practical scientific procedures and techniques, science investigation skills, and one optional unit.
You will be required to undertake a programme of assignments throughout the course, one unit is assessed by external examinations and one with externally marked coursework. These will include assessment of practical skills and the ability to work safely. It is essential that you are well organised and can meet deadlines.
