The AS Level / A Level Welsh Second Language course is a Full-time Further Education course within the Sixth Form Academy (SFA). It is designed for students who are interested in languages and progressing their Welsh skills.
Students study A Level Welsh with us here at NPTC Group of Colleges for many reasons, including a desire to feel closer to their heritage or if they want to pursue Welsh or other languages in the future.
This course is based upon set texts, grammar and films. It is necessary to take an interest in the language outside of the classroom by listening to Welsh radio, watching S4C, access Welsh language websites and videos on YouTube.
The programme is assessed through the following skills: reading, writing, and speaking. Lessons are delivered through the medium of Welsh, in the main, which ensures that students reach the highest level of accuracy and fluency.
There is a Welsh Language Support Assistant who can aid you on your language journey during the course, where you discuss course related material and receive guidance with written tasks.
Also, as part of the course there is the chance to go to the theatre to watch Welsh and attend Welsh cultural events such as Cân i Gymru.
Students are able to make friends with other Welsh language speaking students as they are given the opportunity to attend a Welsh speaking tutorial. They recognise the importance of continuing with their Welsh to extend their vocabulary and as an addition to their CV.
