Course Overview
The BTEC Level 2 Technical Diploma in Music is a full-time course, you will develop technical skills to produce and promote, gain an understanding of roles within the music industry through projects and improve your theoretical knowledge of the subject. This is designed for students wanting to be a musician or work in the musical industry. You will be taught throughout the course by a team of lectures who all work professionally within the industry outside of college. This is located in the Creative, Visual and Performing Arts (CVP) department.
Embedded at the heart of the course will be opportunities to perform, both as an individual and within ensembles at the purpose built Nidum Arts Centre. Opportunities will also exist to join the vibrant extracurricular opportunities that the Music Academy offers. These include Orchestra, Function Band, Jazz Band, Vocal Group and concert tours to Europe.
2 GCSEs at grade C or above. Successful applicants will be selected via interview and audition. The criterion will include being judged on their interest and experience in music plus an audition on an instrument or voice at around Grade 3 standard.
Being a musician in not a job, it is a way of life. Studying on this Level 2 course, will enable you to open your eyes to the hundreds opportunities that will await you within music education and the music industry itself.
From chart successes and download sales, to live performances and recording studios, the music industry is a global. Sales of music, concerts, publishing and related revenue contributed £4.1 billion to the UK economy in 2017.
Successful completion of this course will also allow you to progress onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Music.

There are 6 units on the course, two to be delivered per term.
Autumn Term: Exploring Music & Professional Development
Spring Term: Creating Music & Music Performance
Summer Term: Self-promotion & Music Project.
In this qualification, you will develop technical skills to create, produce and promote music. You will gain an understanding of roles within the music industry through technical projects and create a professional development plan to help you fulfil your career aspirations.
Assessment takes place via coursework and live performances.
There will be additional course-related costs including a 50 pounds course fee and further costs buying music and/or instruments if necessary.
