Course Overview

The VTCT VRQ Level 3 Diploma in Barbering is a Full-time Further Education course designed for students who are interested in a career as a men’s hairdresser, working as a barber within the hairdressing and applied therapies industry.
This is located in the Hairdressing and Applied Therapies (HAT) department.
Interview prior to enrolment. Learners must be aged 18 or over and have achieved either the Level 2 Certificate in Barbering, Level 2 Diploma in Barbering or Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing.
This qualification may lead directly into employment in the barbering industry as senior barber, salon manger or to work as an independent barber.
This qualification will allow learners to continue their studies to NVQ Level 4 Hairdressing and/or other advanced skills courses.
The qualification has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills to an advanced level through a variety of techniques including health and safety; client consultation; advanced cutting and; selling products and services to clients.
These units are all mandatory. Learners will further develop their understanding and skills by selecting a number of optional specialist units which include: hair colour correction; specialist scalp services and treatments; perming and colouring.
This qualification’s structure provides learners with the flexibility to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills depending upon their designated career pathway as a senior men’s hairdresser.
Assessment methods include observation of practical work, written assignments, oral questioning and written end of unit tests. Learners will be required to bring clients to commercial classes for assessments.
Additionally, they will have homework to complete which includes compiling a portfolio of evidence, completing workbooks and practising skills.
Learners will be required to purchase a uniform and kit.
