Course Overview
The UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design is a Full-time Further Education general arts course, which allows you to gain practical experience and skills across a wide range of art and design techniques. This course is designed for students wanting to become a designer, artist or have a creative career. This is located in the Creative, Visual and Performing Arts (CVP) department.
If you are committed to further study or a career in this field, then this is the course for you. The syllabus is dynamic and wide-ranging, offering many exciting opportunities for you to use your imagination and creativity. Drawing ability and practical skills are essential, whilst good computer skills are also important. You will need an eye for shape and colour, good analytical skills and a willingness to experiment, as well as commitment and perseverance. * Welsh Baccalaureate is only offered as part of this course in Neath and Afan Collage.
5 GCSEs A*-C including Maths or English/Welsh is achieved. Level 2 BTEC Diploma in a related subject at Merit grade or above.
All students also need to present a satisfactory portfolio of practical work at interview.
This qualification will allow learners to enter higher level courses, e.g. Foundation Diploma in Art and Design and degree courses, also to prepare them for employment in the field of Art and Design.
The extended diploma is the second year of a 2 year art and design course. During this year students will complete 4 units the final unit being the FMP (Final Major Project). The units are wide and varied in process and outcome ranging from preparing for future careers to focussing on the audience and developing themselves as artists. Students will chose to develop outcomes relevant to their interests and appropriate for their career progression eg painting photography 3D interior design.
You will learn – via taught lessons / practical classes / self-directed study – technical skills / underpinning knowledge, etc.
The various areas the you will primarily focus on are painting, drawing, photography 3D
Assessment takes place via continual assessment / coursework / written assignments.
There will be additional course-related costs.
