Level 3 Health and Social Care: Principles and Contexts (Full-Time)
Course Overview
The Level 3 Health and Social Care: Principles and Contexts is a Full-time Further Education course designed for students who are interested in a career in the Health and Social Care industry. This is located in the Health, Social and Childcare (HSC) department.
The programme includes a range of units all designed to provide the knowledge and skills required for working in Health & Social Care settings. You will study the Foundation Diploma in Year 1 and the Extended Diploma in Year 2. Successful completion of the Extended Diploma is the equivalent of 3 A Levels. Alongside this, you will complete the Welsh Baccalaureate at Advanced Level where you will work on a series of challenges which will broaden your personal, social, and academic development; the Welsh Baccalaureate is equivalent to a further A level.
YOU WILL STUDY

Principles of care and safe practice
Factors affecting individuals’ growth and development
Promoting the rights of individuals
Anatomy and Physiology
Health and wellbeing
Working in the health and social care sector
5 GCSEs at C grade and above to include, English and Maths; Science would be an advantage
Following successful completion of the L3 qualification you may choose to go straight into the workplace where you can further your training. Opportunities available include, working for social services, in care or residential homes. Alternatively, you can further your education at university or remain at NPTC Group to further your studies.
The following list provides you with an idea of some of courses that you could apply for, including nursing, mental health nursing, midwifery paramedic science, social work, physiotherapy, occupational therapy
This is a full-time qualification that is run over 2 years. At the end of year one you will achieve the Foundation Diploma in Health and Social Care and at the end of year two the Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care
WORK PLACEMENT AND ENGAGEMENT WITH THE SECTOR
As well as studying the theory, you will also have the added advantage of work placement within the sector, and this allows you to put the theory into practice. A wide range of professionals who currently work in health and social care provide an insight into working in the sectors when they visit the college to give talks when you will have the chance to ask them questions. Visits to universities and the opportunity to take part in skills competitions also form a part of the course.
A variety of methods of assessment will be used, including, case studies, external examinations, presentations, and you will be required to work independently to carry out extensive research for some of your assessments.
