Sport
The Sports department offers a range of full- and part-time courses at Newtown College, Brecon Beacons College and Llandarcy Academy of Sport.
We have highly qualified staff who teach across the breadth of the curriculum to enhance the student experience.
Many of our sports staff have top-level coaching experience, which will develop students’ sporting abilities, as well as being a part of the academy and enrichment programmes.
Fortunately, the College has an established reputation for sporting success, with former students gaining international recognition in a variety of sports.
The department is proud of its excellent academic results, coupled with high-quality teaching and learning resources.
Facilities at Llandarcy Academy of Sport include an international sports hall, climbing wall, strength & conditioning room, indoor multisport facility, and a 4G pitch.
In conjunction, Newtown College has excellent partnerships with Newtown Football Club and the local authority to support and enrich the curriculum.
More importantly, careers are fulfilling in this sector. These include sports coach, PE teacher, disability sports officer, sports therapist, sports analyst, sports nutritionist, gym instructor or sports community officer.
Academic progression involves Higher Education at the College or another institution. As well as that, some elite sportspeople can gain scholarships to study abroad.

Llandarcy Academy of Sport
At Llandarcy Academy of Sport, we offer sector-leading facilities.
These include:
- An elite, national multi-use sports hall
- Climbing wall
- An all-weather 4G pitch
- Multi-Use Games Area
- Strength, and Conditioning Suite
Teaching facilities involve ten teaching rooms, complete with interactive whiteboards.
Also, students can utilize our fully-equipped ELC rooms along with a student common room furnished with a TV and table tennis.
Notably, we have strong partnerships with both Ospreys Regional Rugby.
This outlines our commitment to developing student’s professionalism in the sporting world.
Equally important, we link with many outside agencies and governing bodies such as the FAW, WRU and NPT PASS department.
Above all, these provide students with exciting opportunities and experiences to train alongside professional athletes.

Newtown College
At Newtown College, we run a Level 2 First Certificate in Sport and Public Services which is equivalent to 4 GCSEs alongside Level 1 Sports Leaders Award.
This allows progression onto the Level 3 courses or into employment.
Our Level 3 Sport qualifications allow students to achieve a variety of relevant vocational qualifications.
These include the Active Young Leaders Award, Level 2 Community Sports Leaders Award, Higher Sports Leaders, YMCA Level 2 Fitness Instructor and Safeguarding.
Furthermore, this enables students to carry out community sports coaching in local primary schools.
Students can also help out in the local sports development unit by participating in festivals and URDD.
In addition, students will have the opportunity to work and assist at the N-Able, a disability sports club.
The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Uniformed Public Services is designed to give an overall view of each aspect of services that operate in the UK.
We work closely with the Uniformed Public Services including the fire service, armed forces, police, and paramedics.
Students will experience a wide range of outdoor activities from kayaking to mountain walking.
As well as that, we will provide a number of talks with visiting specialists.
The Football Academy equally train and play home matches at the new 3G pitch at Latham Park.
We use the following facilities at Maldwyn Leisure Centre: sports hall, astroturf pitch, fitness studio and fitness suite.
New partnership with Newtown FC for the Level 3 Sport Excellence and Performance course in Newtown.

Brecon Beacons College
The Sports Academy at NPTC Group’s Brecon Beacons College takes a multi-dimensional approach to enhancing athletic performance and discipline.
The Brecon Leisure Centre facilities include an athletics track, AstroTurf pitch, sports hall, and a netball court.
On-site, the College has its own training pitch and state-of-the-art Strength and Conditioning Centre.
Above all, we have modern teaching facilities which include three teaching rooms, an IT facility, and a sports laboratory; all with interactive whiteboards.
Sport Courses
We offer a number of sports courses such as Level 2 Sport and Outdoor Skill, L3 Sport Coaching & Development and the Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching and Performance.
The content of these courses will reflect the performance approach to each of the sports.
More specifically, courses will consist of both traditional approaches such as anatomy, physiology, sports nutrition, to relatively modern disciplines such as sports coaching and sports massage.
The Level 3 course has a superb record for getting students into Higher Education, with offers being received from top sporting universities such as Cardiff Metropolitan and Loughborough.
The “Cougar Power” Strength and Conditioning Centre
The most innovative and effective programmes are available to meet the fitness variables of elite performance: speed, agility, strength, balance, and dynamic mobility.
We provide sessions through our college programmes which are designed to fit effectively around academic study and specialist sports coaching.
Sports Academies
Students also have access to high-quality coaching in the sports of football, netball, and rugby.
Each of our coaching sessions will focus on developing techniques, skills, and tactics at an individual, unit and team level.
Our sporting fixtures will usually take place on a Wednesday afternoon.
In addition, we have links with local clubs and organisations which will provide students with coaching expertise.
As a result, we have a record of sporting success in winning national championships in a variety of sports.
We can also boast 50+ international caps across a range of sports. These include judo, table tennis, hockey, rugby, netball, football, sailing, mountain biking, and badminton.
Furthermore, the Academy has access to an officer who can promote health and well-being for all staff and students across the College.
These recreational activities are available outside the traditional elite performance programmes.

Public Services
Likewise, public services offer an assortment of courses across the same campuses at NPTC Group of Colleges.
Many of our lecturers indeed play an active duty across the uniformed public services, by using their expertise to captivate students.
Public services will undoubtedly lay the basis for a career in the armed forces, coastguard, ambulance, police or fire services.
For example, many of our former students have progressed into various careers in uniformed public sectors, including blue-light emergency services and the armed forces.
Additionally, the department runs educational visits across the country to highlight possible careers in the Uniformed Public Services.
Furthermore, a range of work experience and training is also available for students.
Combined Cadet Force
The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) offers college students a broad range of challenging, exciting, adventurous and educational activities. The aim is to develop skills in personal responsibility, leadership, and self-discipline.
